Hydrogenation with water injection is primarily aimed at preventing the crystallization of ammonium salts and avoiding equipment corrosion. So, if the total nitrogen content in the hydrogenation feed is very low, around 3 PPM, then will no ammonium salts be formed? Does that mean water injection is not necessary? I hope the experts here can give me some advice~~

Whether water should be added or not is determined through calculations. Ammonium salts all have a Kp value; by multiplying the concentration of ammonia by that of H2S, it is possible to determine the crystallization temperature of NH4HS, which is generally below 60℃ ; The crystallization temperature of NH4Cl is determined by multiplying the ammonia concentration by the HCL concentration; even with 3 ppm of nitrogen, water needs to be added if the Kp value reaches a level that induces crystallization.
Yes! Our analysis showed that it was only 3PPM, so we were struggling with deciding whether to add water or not!

Don’t you analyze the recycled hydrogen in your plant? Nitrogen is also present in the recycled hydrogen
