In our plant, for the level measurement of oil and water in a tank during vacuum distillation and desalination processes, both radio frequency admittance and double flange methods are used. However, while the radio frequency admittance changes by 2%, the double flange changes by about 10%. The desalination process in the plant uses only radio frequency admittance, without dual flanges. Judging from the performance of dual flanges used at the level measurement points of tanks for gasoline, contaminated oil, and oil-water separation, their effectiveness is not very good; it is likely that they will perform just as poorly in this desalination application as well. Especially over time, as the contaminated oil at the bottom of the desalination tank solidifies, it can clog the diaphragm on the positive pressure side. Additionally, the density of the wastewater below the desalination unit does not remain constant, which makes it impossible for dual flanges to provide accurate measurements. Radio frequency admittance is not necessarily effective either; to increase oil recovery rates underground, companies commonly inject polyacrylamide into wells on site. This substance mixes with the crude oil and has a significant negative impact on the operation of electrodialysis tanks, resulting in even less accurate readings from radio frequency admittance measurements. In many cases, process operators can only manually determine the approximate position of the boundary using sampling tubes, leaving the instruments as mere decorations, which is quite awkward.
