College girl sues parents over lucky money – A teenager in Yunnan Province sued her parents for not giving her the traditional New Year’s money, which is money given by elders to the younger ones during the Lunar New Year; she won the case. Xiaojuan, who did not want to reveal her real name, told the Beijing Times that she had received no financial support from her parents since they divorced six years ago. As a first-year college student, she faced financial difficulties and even had to use her grandmother’s savings to cover her college enrollment fees. Suing her parents was just one way for her to get some assistance. The court ruled in Xiaojuan’s favor, ordering her parents to pay 1,500 yuan (220 US dollars) each month. Xiaojuan said it was the last thing she would have done, but she desperately needed the money to pay her tuition fees.
