CCTVNEWS: How do you get a place to study fine arts in college? 15,000 examination papers, including portraits and still-life paintings, were displayed in a huge hall for teachers to grade in Taiyuan, in Shanxi Province in northern China.
Given the sheer volume of work on display, one netizen joked online that teachers would need bicycles to get through all the pictures and grade them in such a ‘sea of drawings.’ Some netizens were surprised by the quality and quantity of the paintings created by these artistic teenagers, while others sighed at the pressure the young students must be under to secure a place in a prestigious higher education institution. There was also discussion about whether the students truly enjoy painting or whether much of their skill stems from parental pressure.
According to media reports, the number of candidates attempting to enter art schools in 2013 rose from 32,000 to one million over the previous ten years. In any case, let’s wish these artists good luck!
