Hello everyone. There is a material in our production whose viscosity in winter is around 10,000; this material needs to be transported to a tank that is 6 meters high. Using a gear pump for transportation is too slow. What type of pump would be more suitable in this case?
Reciprocating pumps and screw pumps are better.

What is your flow rate range? Internal gear pumps can handle relatively high flow rates, and they can also meet the requirements regarding viscosity.
There is no fixed concept for this viscosity grade, but I worked on a project before where the medium was a syrup at around 40 degrees Celsius; at that time, an ABB rotor pump was chosen, with a head of about 10 meters, and the results were quite good. Personally, I think the screw pump might have trouble dealing with this height. You can consult manufacturers that produce rotor pumps, as they are quite specialized in dealing with liquids with high viscosity.

Let me add that, to give an idea of the viscosity of this raw material used by the company, it’s similar to honey in a refrigerator – very sticky; when a glass rod is inserted and pulled out, a thread is formed, and it can also flow out slowly when the beaker is turned upside down.
