The packing for the carbon dioxide compressors in our factory comes in three-leaf and six-leaf PTFE versions, along with a copper ring (some units use a single unitary piece while others have three separate parts; this confusion arises from inconsistent procurement of accessories). Our installation method is to use PTFE at the bottom of the packing box (towards the top dead center), while for the six-petal type, it is placed below the three-petal type. Copper is at the upper part (towards the bottom dead center). I want to ask what the function of the copper ring is ? ? ? Is our way of doing it correct? What’s the proper term for it? Thank you.
I think it should be installed this way: first put three-petal PTFE in the packing box, then six-petal PTFE, and finally the copper ring. If a stuffing box can only hold two pieces, install three petals first, then six petals.
