Large compressor units in factories all come equipped with rehydration systems. So why is it necessary to have such systems or vacuum extraction systems? An experienced worker said it’s for energy savings – could you explain in more detail how this saves energy? Additionally, what harm can occur to the compressors if the rehydration system fails? Besides using coolers to create a vacuum, are there any other effective methods for vacuum extraction? There are quite a few questions here; thank you
To clarify for you first, the rehydration system does not belong to the compressor system; the rehydration and vacuum pumping systems are designed for the condensing steam turbines used to drive compression. So, quality has no direct relation to the compressor. The indirect relationship driver has failed; can the host still run? Energy savings are easy to understand: after vacuuming, the pressure in the surface cooler is lower than atmospheric pressure, which in turn means that the exhaust pressure of the turbine is also lower. This naturally increases the effective enthalpy drop of the steam.

Rehydration is applicable to condensing steam turbines; the work done by the turbine is equal to the enthalpy drop of the steam. If the steam is condensed, its enthalpy becomes lower, resulting in a larger enthalpy drop. Therefore, the amount of water vapor consumed per unit time is low, but an evacuation system is required to create a vacuum environment.
It is to establish a vacuum system; in the case of a condensing turbine, without vacuum, it won’t shut down.
