Can CO2 gas shielded welding be used on pressure vessels? What are the limitations?

The quality stability of solid wire for CO2 gas shielded welding is fairly good, but its impact toughness is often poor. Flux-cored wires are generally not used in pressure vessels due to their unreliable quality.
Core welding is very common in our factory; it’s usually used for surfacing stainless steel. It’s highly regarded abroad, but since our evaluations and actual tests showed that it meets the requirements, they didn’t say anything. MIG welding is no longer used these days, but the experienced workers in the factory still prefer to call it that; in reality, it is a mixture of carbon dioxide and argon in a 1:4 ratio.
We mainly use it in structures, such as the welding of pillars.
Our company uses MIG welders, welding wire, and an 85% argon mix for welding; the quality of the welds is very good. This method is used for root welding in single-sided welding processes, and there are no issues with X-ray inspections nor with the mechanical properties of the welds. This is basically the approach adopted for design and welding these days.
