The pipelines of emergency spray/eye wash systems that have not been insulated should be emptied promptly after use, and pipelines such as those for tank sprays should also be emptied as much as possible, with the pressure gauges drained. Fill antifreeze into equipment such as pump seals, steam flow meters, forklifts, and other vehicles. The water circulation system needs to be disconnected when not in use, emptied, and the circulating water tower and pumps drained. Forklifts and various vehicles are parked indoors to prevent the distilled water in batteries and diesel from freezing. Ensure personnel take precautions against freezing and stay warm; be aware of water and ice on the ground and ladders, which can cause slips! On the day after washing, the pipelines and storage tank must be emptied to prevent freezing from affecting the tank cleaning process. The handling of products sensitive to low temperatures follows the principle of preventing the products from remaining stationary in pipelines, valves, and other equipment for too long. Choose methods such as heating, purging, or cycling to prevent the product from freezing. For products with an unknown melting point, corresponding product samples can be placed in a safe outdoor environment to simulate the condition of the products in the storage tank, which can then be used as a basis for controlling the operating temperature. At least one comprehensive inspection should be carried out during winter to check whether the tank’s emergency vent valves, breather valves, measurement/sampling ports, tank manholes, and internal and external material pipelines are leaking due to sealing contraction stresses caused by temperature changes. Valves tend to freeze easily and need to be thawed with steam; they should not be forced open to avoid damaging the valve. The wastewater treatment system is another area that requires special attention to prevent freezing, including the pump outlets, overflow pipelines, air flotation tank, online monitoring tanks, and sampling hoses. If the steam system is shut down, the piping downstream of the main valve, including the drain piping, becomes a water circuit, and it is necessary to empty it or even purge it. In particular, it prevents water accumulation at the steam pressure relief valve assembly from causing it to crack due to freezing. In areas such as administrative offices and laboratory buildings, efforts are made to drain water from the exterior walls promptly, and measures such as filling sand into outdoor ground water meters are taken to prevent freezing and cracking.
