The original design called for blending domestic crude oil with imported crude oil; it also involved blending low-sulfur crude oil with high-sulfur crude oil, wax oil with residue oil. Additionally, the original design covered blending light (heavy) crude oil with heavy (light) crude oil. There are also concepts such as acid value and API gravity of crude oil. The initial stage of blending may be an experimental process that involves considerations such as corrosion, material balance between light and heavy materials, and heat balance; therefore, blending is carried out with great care to avoid corrosion and ensure product quality. Then, obtaining a reasonable blending ratio or upgrading the equipment material. Many of China’s refineries have grown in this step-by-step manner.
