This density is determined during the design based on the raw materials; once set, it is best to keep it as close to that value as possible
Our plant uses top-loading coal, with the fineness of the coal fed into the furnace controlled at 75-80
If the fineness is too high, problems such as peeling of the coal cake and coal loss can occur. A skilled rammer operator can effectively control these issues at lower levels of fineness; therefore, there is no need for an extremely high level of fineness.
We generally keep this fineness between 88 and 91. (We are working with 5.5-meter coke ovens)
