Takaoka Petrochemical’s DCP wastewater treatment system was granted a **patent for invention. December 15, 2016. Source: Sinopec News Agency, Sinopec News Network. (Li Hu, Xu Wenqing) Recently, at the request of the group company, Takaoka Petrochemical’s “system for treating DCP (diisopropyl peroxide) wastewater” was awarded a **patent for invention. After being put into use, this special device ensures that wastewater generated during the DCP production process is treated to 100% compliance standards, thereby preventing secondary pollution. Chemical plants generate large amounts of wastewater during the DCP production process, and the organic compounds contained in this wastewater can cause harm and pollution to both humans and the environment. In China, chromated wastewater with high concentrations of COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) is primarily treated using the conventional method of \"anaerobic biological treatment + aerobic biological treatment + microelectrolysis\". Due to the high concentration of sulfides in such wastewater, sulfur present in DCP wastewater generates hydrogen sulfide during the anaerobic biological treatment process; hydrogen sulfide tends to volatilize during the aerobic stage, thereby contaminating the environment. Additionally, the fillers in the microelectrolysis reactor may become clogged, which affects the efficiency of the treatment process. To this end, Takahashi Petrochemical has been organizing technical staff to conduct in-depth research and efforts since 2008, seeking a technical method that can effectively treat DCP wastewater without causing secondary pollution, in the absence of any existing precedents to draw on. The technical staff were bold in innovation, breaking away from traditional biochemical concepts. Based on the characteristics of the pollutants present in DCP wastewater and the actual operating conditions of wastewater treatment systems, they developed more reasonable control parameters and process flows through repeated experiments. A combined method for treating DCP wastewater was created, which includes a primary anaerobic biochemical treatment step and a primary aerobic biochemical treatment step, along with additional steps such as catalytic oxidation treatment, ozone treatment or MBR (membrane treatment) treatment, and a secondary biochemical treatment step. At the same time, in accordance with the wastewater treatment requirements of the facility, they make rational use of a more efficient DCP wastewater treatment system, which includes a primary anaerobic tank, a primary aerobic tank, a catalytic oxidation tank, and a secondary biological treatment tank. The facility can selectively utilize the reaction units in the conventional treatment system as needed, thereby effectively removing biodegradable organic substances from the wastewater, further reducing the COD levels in it, improving the biodegradability of the wastewater, and ultimately ensuring that the treated water meets the required discharge standards. By utilizing this patent, the quality of the effluent from DCP wastewater can meet the requirements of Shanghai’s wastewater discharge standards. Compared with traditional technologies, this invented method uses anaerobic biological treatment in place of aerobic biological treatment, thereby avoiding secondary pollution from hydrogen sulfide. It is also possible to opt for secondary biological treatment instead of microelectrolysis treatment, thus avoiding the various problems associated with microelectrolysis treatment. After adopting the company’s proprietary DCP wastewater treatment technology, Department 4 of Takahashi Petrochemical achieved remarkable results; the quality of the water discharged from the secondary wastewater treatment system improved significantly, showing excellent treatment efficiency. It is reported that no chemical company in the world has applied for related patents to date, and Takahashi Petrochemical’s technological innovations are at the world’s advanced level.
