Dear experts: I have a cylinder, and calculations show that a DN400 safety valve is required. However, it is difficult to obtain such a valve and it is also expensive. I was wondering if it would be possible to use two DN200 safety valves instead? Thank you!

I have 16-inch safety valves at home~~~ The key to selecting a safety valve is to consider your flow rate; generally, the safety valves I use, with the same diameter and throat size, have a flow rate that is 5%~10% higher than those from other manufacturers. It really depends on your flow rate. But using two DN200 valves instead of one DN400 valve, as you suggested, is definitely not possible! ! For example, the inlet area, which is closely related to the displacement: DN400 is 125,600, DN350 is 70,650, and DN200 is 31,400. This represents a geometric increase; unlike control valves, where the flow capacity increases in a linear proportion to the diameter
A few days ago, a guy mentioned that safety valves are rarely available in sizes larger than DN200. Is that so?

For our flagship products, the spring valves can reach a size of 12W16, while the check valves are 12*16 and the suction valves are 16 – all of these have obtained displacement certification. For spring-type safety valves, one of the key components is the spring. Taking our leading brands as examples, the springs are all imported from a specific spring supplier in the UK. When the diameter increases, the cost of springs becomes too high, making it uneconomical from a procurement perspective. It’s not that it’s impossible to manufacture them, but it’s not cost-effective
The domestic manufacturing level really can’t be considered advanced; even the quality of springs fails to meet standards. :L

Even if the set pressure at which the safety valves of DN400 and two DN200 valves operate is the same (it has to be the same for a single container; otherwise, the container’s safety standards won’t be met), their capacity to release pressure differs significantly. The combined pressure-release capacity of the two DN200 valves is still less than that of one DN400 valve. Making such changes is dangerous: the pressure relief amount is insufficient, pressure relief does not occur in a timely manner, the container is prone to deformation, and even explosion may occur.
Domestic products lack core competitiveness, and those working in technology know this better than anyone. They never pay attention to basic disciplines or basic industries; instead, they try to use what’s already available abroad or from others as a reference in order to achieve results quickly. In the end, what develops is merely quantity and scale, not technology and quality.
Bro, you’re thinking too simply. Area and diameter increase in a geometric proportion; the ventilation rates for 400 and 200 differ by at least four orders of magnitude
In terms of inlet area, one DN400 unit is equivalent to four DN200 units. However, you can’t guarantee that these four safety valves will activate all at once; so it’s better to opt for a 400 unit, even if it means having it custom-made
