What does NAMUR safety barrier mean? What are the types of safety barriers? Thank you
It’s the safety amplifier used for Namur signals; proximity valve position switches generally use Namur signals, which need to be converted into digital signals through a safety amplifier before being fed to the control unit. However, it seems that most safety amplifiers can handle various types of signals, so there’s no need to design a special Namur-specific safety amplifier.
NAMUR is just a standard; it doesn’t mean anything in particular. I/O modules from many safety barrier manufacturers and PLC manufacturers support it. There are only two types of safety barriers: Zener safety barriers and isolated safety barriers.
