Problems in the vibration measurement area of compressor rotors

The project has been put on hold; pitting has occurred in the vibration measurement area of the centrifugal compressor rotor. Will removing this pitting with sandpaper affect the accuracy of the vibration values during operation?
Pitting in the vibration measurement area is generally not deep. The amplitude can be measured only after the shaft rotates one full circle. Pitting results in a uniform amplitude curve and does not manifest as variations in amplitude.
