I’m very interested in this topic. First of all, I’d like to say that my wife was my classmate in university. But we didn’t work at the same place after graduation. I first worked in a small city, then I resigned and joined her. We worked at the same company; she was in the Purchasing Department while I was in the Maintenance Department. Every day we would go to work together and have lunch together. Other colleagues were jealous of us. You know, sometimes these two departments end up competing with each other, which made things difficult for me. Since we viewed problems in different ways, we often argued at home. From my point of view, the advantage is that we can help each other, but the downside is that there are no secrets – you can’t flirt with other female colleagues. The worst thing would be if the company closed down, as that would mean two people losing their jobs. Fortunately, I changed jobs a few years ago.
I don’t work at the same company as my spouse. As a man, I need money for my own social activities with friends, especially for things like smoking and drinking, which are quite expensive. Thirdly, although couples working in the same company are envied by their colleagues, I prefer to work in different companies. Couples who work in the same company can go to work and come home together, they can have a nice lunch surrounded by their colleagues, and they might go on trips from time to time. But they don’t have any personal time at all. It seems controlled when one doesn’t have any personal time – it’s unbearable.

Well, we’re in the same company. I think it’s common in state-owned enterprises where this is allowed, but it’s different in private and foreign companies, as it can lead to someone retiring. There might be some advantages: the same bus, working hours, and holidays, as well as a meal provided by the company, but there can also be disadvantages: both employees retiring due to the same economic issues, and so on.
For companies, there are more disadvantages: when someone resigns or retires, it affects the others; work becomes more emotional rather than professional in nature; business or financial secrets are more likely to be revealed. For couples, the advantages are that they can spend more time together and have common goals regarding their work or lives. However, the disadvantages include less personal space and privacy, as well as a higher likelihood of feeling emotionally exhausted.

Overall, I don’t think it’s a good idea to work in the same company as one’s lover. Despite the advantages, the disadvantages are severe. Therefore, when my boyfriend graduates, I hope we can work in the same city, but not at the same company, as he is still pursuing his master’s degree.
