Dear friends, in plants, the boundaries of areas such as tank farms generally employ a configuration of two valves + blind flanges + drain valves. It has always been designed this way for the owners. I would like to ask my friends: when it’s time for shutdown and maintenance, how are the boundary valve assemblies operated? Especially with this drain valve, it seems that if it is to be used for purging, it can be installed facing upward; when installed facing downward, consideration needs to be given to drainage. Under what conditions does this drainage usually occur?

If steam is used for purging here, it should be introduced at the upper part of the pipeline; in this case, the vent at the bottom can either be kept or removed, depending on the needs – it’s better to keep it.
A drain pipe is a piping system used to discharge the liquid present in equipment; it is installed at the lowest point of the pipes and equipment. Ball valves are commonly used for this purpose due to their excellent sealing properties, while gate valves are used less frequently. There is also a corresponding concept called venting; the valve used for this purpose is called a vent valve. Its function is to discharge the non-condensable gases present in pipes and equipment. Especially when steam pipes are being preheated, both the drain valves and vent valves play a very important role. :)
