In a project, there is a manual turbine worm flanged ball valve of type Q347F, with DN600 and ANSI300 specifications; it requires more than 90 turns to open, which really scared me – it goes beyond what makes sense to me; Does anyone have any information on ball valve worm gear mechanisms? I’d like to know how many turns are required to open a ball valve of various specifications (DN***ANSI***). If the number of turns is too large, I might consider using an electric actuator or a simple operating device driven by a stepper motor ; Yesterday I checked the label information on some ball valve worm gear mechanisms; the details listed included Rated: 170 Nm, Output Rated: 3000, Ratio: 68:1 ; Can calculations be done using these parameters? This post was last edited by City Boy on 2017-8-4 at 13:01. I’m not sure what ANSI300 means in your case – does it refer to a pressure of 300 LB? ANSI is the American **Standards Institute. It's normal for a 600 ball valve to have over 90 turns
ANSI300 means 300LB; the full form is ANSI CLASS300
Even with the speed ratio, it’s not possible to calculate the number of turns, as the module is also unknown. The number of rotations is acceptable given the need for reduced effort.

The number of rotations is independent of the modulus and depends only on the rotation ratio
68:1 For ball valves with diagonal travel, it only takes 17 turns to open them; the problem arises with bipolar valves, which require many more turns.
It can be calculated using the gear ratio; gear ratio × 1/4 gives the number of turns required to activate it

Don’t we already have the data on the worm gear nameplate? Rated input torque: 170 Nm; rated output torque: 3000 Nm; gear ratio: 68:1. A standard ball valve opens and closes by 90 degrees, which means that this worm gear needs to rotate approximately 68/4 ≈ 17 times to achieve full opening. To use an electric actuator, the required output torque must be greater than 170 Nm
