Well, the designer told me it’s a stop valve, but it doesn’t seem to work well, does it?
A soft-sealed ball valve or a butterfly valve will work just as well
Since the design team has asked you to use a stop valve, there must be a reason for that. A ball valve is a shut-off valve, while a globe valve can be used both to shut off flow and to regulate it
The valves for hydrogen fluoride are either fully open or fully closed; there is no need to adjust the flow rate. When using a stop valve for hydrogen fluoride, higher requirements are placed on the material and sealing performance. . . I wonder if even no one in the design institutes knows this; since it’s a pressure pipeline, when designing such pipelines in the past, no one raised the issue that ball valves had to be used instead of globe valves.

What the original poster is referring to is anhydrous hydrogen fluoride. In its molecular form (as opposed to its ionic form in solutions), hydrogen fluoride has relatively weaker corrosiveness; therefore, it is not necessary to use valves and pipelines made of carbon steel, nor is it required to use PTFE-lined valves. In terms of valve types, given that hydrofluoric acid is highly toxic and easily vaporizes, it is recommended to use valves with good sealing properties. Ball valves and plug valves are suitable options; gate valves have average sealing performance and are not recommended; butterfly valves have the worst sealing properties and should not be used at all! Well, I’m not sure if other companies in the same industry have used stop valves.
