On horizontal gas pipelines, should Y-type pipeline filters be installed horizontally or vertically?

The flow direction shall be in accordance with the markings on the filter housing; the drain outlet should face downward
If the drain outlet of the steam pipe filter faces downward, water accumulation occurs, which reduces the flow area and filtration area as well as creating a risk of water hammer.
Study it carefully to understand how the fluid flows – where it enters and where it exits. It’s easy to see: generally, the fluid first enters the straight pipe, then goes into a short ‘Y’ shape, before returning to the horizontal pipe. The part with a cover is the filter screen
