For any pipe fitting standard, there are 3 methods for determining the wall thickness of the pipe fitting (the body itself): (1) The material data sheet provides the thickness value directly, for example: 20 mm. (2) The material data sheet gives the SCH rating for the pipe fitting’s thickness, such as sch80s; the actual thickness value is then obtained by consulting a table. (3) If the data sheet specifies the thickness of the fitting’s nozzles, then the thickness of the fitting’s body must be determined through strength calculations; the thickness of the nozzles must not be considered equivalent to the thickness of the fitting itself. For high-pressure fittings, it is necessary to calculate the strength of the fittings. The focus of this post is to introduce the topic of strength calculation for pipe fittings: 1. For standard pipe fittings, only the wall thickness of the pipe is required; no calculations are needed. Only non-standard pipe fittings require calculation and fabrication in accordance with regulations.
