The design drawings for our new project have been finalized recently. For the root valves of the atmospheric vertical dome tanks (used for media such as butanol and octanol), they are designed to consist of two gate valves connected in series (see figure below). We feel that this approach is rather wasteful, as it increases costs significantly; moreover, there is also a ball valve on the pipeline right after the root valve in the design. I would like to ask whether this design is a standard requirement? What are the standards? Is it okay to use just a single gate valve as the root valve? With a large number of storage tanks, this can save at least millions.
What is the pipe diameter? Why is a gate valve with poor sealing performance used for the bottom valve of the tank, while a ball valve is used downstream?

But according to the diagram you provided, one of the valves connected in series at the base of the tank can be removed. The valve on the combined main pipe is a series-connected dual valve. Why aren’t ball valves, which offer better sealing performance and faster opening/closing speeds, used for root irrigation valves?
The dual valves reflect consideration for the ability to respond to emergencies; The dual-channel design facilitates the adjustment and selection of pressure differences. The outer side, and the inner side functions as a closure in special cases.

According to the specifications for the installation of emergency shut-off valves, the first valve after the tank must be an emergency shut-off valve; therefore, the pneumatic type should be installed on the inside side.
