Dear sea friends, ball valves used in acrylic or acrylate recombination pipelines, with temperatures around 100-150°C, are prone to internal leakage. The reinforced PTFE seal inside is prone to deformation and has a short service life. I was wondering if there are any other suitable materials that can be used as a substitute? Or could it be replaced with other good methods such as hard sealing? It would be best if you have prior experience using it. Thank you!
It shouldn’t be the case, as the temperature isn’t high. Could it be that the medium causes swelling and corrosion of tetrafluoroethylene?
What type of structure does the valve you are using have? Please tell me the model. If it’s just a packing issue, packing made of polyphenylene can be used.
Under normal conditions, at temperatures of 100-150 degrees, PTFE seals certainly will not deform. There are various types of internal leaks; in addition to seal issues, improper operation and inadequate calibration of the valve itself can also be causes of problems.
Pure tetrafluoroethylene definitely won’t work; it can’t withstand the temperature. Ours is reinforced tetrafluoroethylene.
Due to the properties of the medium, the valves in acrylic acid plants are opened and closed more frequently compared to those in typical refining plants.
