In the diagram, what is the purpose of this hole in the valve gate?

It seems to have two functions: one is to maintain a constant flow rate, so that a certain flow can still be ensured even in the event of an accidental full shutdown; the other is to keep a small pressure difference before and after the valve disc, which facilitates opening the valve~~
Low-temperature media (liquid ammonia, methanol, etc.) easily vaporize when the pressure is reduced; therefore, a relief hole must be provided upstream of the gate valve. This small hole is the vent hole!
Won’t there be any internal leakage when it’s turned off?

This post was last edited by qjsh2012 on 2018-4-22 at 17:44. The leakage hole is located upstream of the gate valve, meaning that the leakage occurs intentionally into the upstream pipeline system. The downstream end is blocked.
