Selection of cofferdam valves

Our company’s horizontal tank area has 6 cofferdams located in Guangdong; each of these cofferdams is equipped with a manual gate valve that is installed in a submerged position (that is, the valve is positioned below the concrete surface inside the cofferdam). The diameter of these valves is DN150. In practice, water tends to accumulate inside the cofferdams, which leads to the growth of moss. Regular drainage and cleaning are carried out, but occasionally the seals fail to function properly. When the valves are removed, it is found that sand, gravel, or dry moss may block the sealing surface right below the gate plate, preventing proper sealing in emergency situations. Can this valve be replaced with a butterfly valve? Or under such operating conditions, what type of valve do you choose? Thank you!
