I have a cylindrical tank with a volume of 0.5 cubic meters, used to store 37% formaldehyde. At the bottom is a conical tube, connected using stainless steel fittings; a regular plastic gasket is used in the middle, which is typically used to hold formaldehyde. The problem is that after long-term use, crystals form at the connection points, blocking the pipes. There is no crystallization in the entire tank and pipes; only a large amount of crystallization is present at the flange connections. When stored at low temperatures or left for an extended period of time, formalin solutions will precipitate white flocculent deposits – polyformaldehyde.
