Is it necessary to use argon gas for welding 304 stainless steel pipes?
When manual shielded arc welding cannot be used on small pipes, TIG welding should be employed for the root pass. When performing the backing process, it is impossible to ensure quality without argon shielding. But it depends on how to provide protection; filling the entire pipeline with argon is not practical. One person can perform TIG welding while another handles the shielding.
