In chemical engineering projects, RT is the standard method required for inspecting pressure pipelines. For the project I am currently working on, the special inspection agency has approved the use of ultrasonic phased array technology as a substitute for RT by the construction party. However, since phased arrays are not covered in the standards for pressure pipeline inspection, I rejected the alternative proposal. No examples of phased array technology can be found online. Is there anyone who has experience with phased array detection methods? I would be grateful if you could share your insights Thank you.

The special inspection agency only gave vague suggestions to the construction contractor and the owner, without establishing clear communication with the design institute.
You did right! I’ve encountered that too, but in the end the Special Inspection Agency agreed as well
In certain situations at the pipeline installation site, RT testing cannot be carried out, and other testing methods must be considered instead. Phased array ultrasound and TOFD are non-destructive testing methods that have been widely used in recent years; they are more advanced and reliable than traditional ultrasound testing. Under conditions where certain pipe diameters and wall thicknesses are met, combining them with local RT testing also constitutes a viable non-destructive testing approach for use in specific field conditions.
