Are shims required for the ring loose-flange on vertical pipes? What is its function? As shown in the figure
Loose flange – if there’s no stopper, won’t it just fall off?
It is inconvenient to use without stoppers; secondly, when the bolts are removed, the flange can hit the equipment and may also injure the hand
So, no blocking elements are needed on either side of the loose-ring flange on that horizontal pipe, right? For vertical pipes, is it sufficient to install a stopper on the flange on the lower side only, without the need to install one on the flange on the upper side?
Using stoppers on the horizontal pipe makes it more convenient to install the bolts. Just imagine: without stoppers, when the bolts are inserted, they might push the flange away, which would require two people to carry out the installation; with stoppers, one person can do the job
