How is the length of a flanged gate valve determined?

According to section 4.3.7 of GB/T12221-2005, which deals with the structural length of flanged gate valves, it can be found from the tables that for DN200 with a nominal pressure of 1.0–2.5 MPa, there are two corresponding lengths: one for the short series and another for the long series. I would like to ask the experts here: how can one distinguish between short-series and long-series products, and how should one make a choice in practice?
This is characteristic of China: the long series uses metric units and ISO standards, while the short series uses imperial units and ASME standards.
Structures that preferentially use black fonts are generally those with long structures.
