Many fine chemical plants choose flanges with male and female surfaces for connections when the pipeline pressure is high; So far, flanges with male and female surfaces have not been seen in the pipe connections of American standards. Why choose concave-convex face flange connections? Moreover, when replacing the gasket on such a surface with uneven contours, external force is required to separate the two flanges in order to make the replacement possible, which makes the process quite inconvenient ; Secondly, the male and female flanges are sealed by face contact, just like several other types of flanges such as RF flanges. So unless there are regulations requiring the use of these outdated raised and recessed flanges, I generally wouldn’t consider such troublesome raised and recessed flanges at all.

Although it may require extra effort to separate the two flanges when replacing the gasket, this type of connection offers significant advantages in ensuring the safety and reliability of high-pressure systems. Today, the wound gasket technology is quite mature, and it offers significant advantages over previous composite gaskets in terms of blast resistance, among other aspects; it can generally replace gaskets with male-female surfaces. The advantages of the RF surface also include easier installation and replacement of gaskets compared to the ribbed surface.
