Recently, the renovation project for 18-meter spiral welded pipes at the Liaoyang steel pipe production line, which is part of CNPC Gem Tube Co., Ltd., was completed and put into operation. The production capacity of this facility now ranks among the highest in the industry, making it CNPC’s only manufacturing enterprise in the Northeast region capable of producing 18-meter oil and gas pipes. In recent years, with the rapid development of the oil and gas pipeline market and continuous investment in infrastructure construction both domestically and internationally, the demand for 18-meter spiral welded pipes has been increasing steadily. Based on market research and thorough analysis, the company decided to carry out an expansion upgrade of the existing production line, increasing its length to 18 meters. By optimizing production processes and upgrading key equipment, the company has successfully acquired the capability to manufacture spiral welded pipes with a length of 18 meters and high-grade steel, covering all stages of the production process. This has significantly enhanced the company’s capabilities in the manufacturing of ultra-long and large-diameter oil and gas pipelines, providing solid technical support for further ensuring oil and gas exploration and development as well as meeting the demands of high-end markets both domestically and internationally. During the capacity expansion and renovation of the production line, it coincided with the harsh winter in the Northeast region, which caused significant difficulties for the construction work. The company reversed the schedule, used visual management strategies, came up with innovative approaches, and organized everything carefully, thereby overcoming three major challenges one after another. First, it uses a double-layer structure transport vehicle with separate control for the movement of the main vehicle and the transportation of steel pipes, which effectively prevents the risks associated with transporting extremely long or large-diameter steel pipes ; Secondly, by using an over-cross steering vehicle, the steel pipe can be rotated 360 degrees in any direction, successfully overcoming the challenge of moving 18-meter-long steel pipes across obstacles ; Third, the design of the hydraulic press has been innovated to meet the compatibility requirements for hydrostatic testing of steel pipes of different lengths.
