The first such pipe, with dimensions of Φ2820x28mm, has been successfully produced. This significant breakthrough not only overcame the century-old limitations in the domestic manufacturing of spiral steel pipes but also demonstrated the company’s outstanding capabilities in terms of processing techniques and manufacturing technologies. On August 25, 2024, in the production workshop of Bohai Petroleum Equipment Fujian Steel Pipe Co., Ltd., thanks to the relentless efforts of researchers and a well-organized precision manufacturing process, the first large-diameter, ultra-thick-walled spiral steel pipe with dimensions of Φ2820x28mm was successfully produced. This significant advancement not only marks a solid step forward in the development of social infrastructure such as water management systems toward lower costs and higher quality, but it also demonstrates the company’s outstanding achievements in technological innovation and manufacturing capabilities. It is reported that this large-diameter, ultra-thick-walled spiral steel pipe was developed jointly by Bohai Petroleum Equipment Fujian Steel Pipe Co., Ltd. and a steel factory. After undergoing rigorous visual inspections, non-destructive testing, and physical and chemical tests, all its specifications exceed both national standards and industry standards; in particular, the wall thickness of 28 mm breaks through the technical barriers that have existed in the spiral steel pipe industry for nearly a century.
It is reported that the successful development of large-diameter, ultra-thick-walled spiral steel pipes with dimensions of Φ2820x28 mm has not only overcome the limitations of the previous market for water pipes and pile pipes, which relied on three-roll straight-seam steel pipes that had limited lengths, numerous welds, complex manufacturing processes, and high costs, but it has also provided a significant boost to the industries involved in coil rolling and spiral steel pipe production, thereby accelerating the progress of social infrastructure development. Bohai Petroleum Equipment Fujian Steel Pipe Co., Ltd. is a state-owned enterprise that has been dedicated to the manufacturing of spiral welded pipes since its establishment in 2012; it began operations in 2015 and has continued to grow since then. Its product range is extensive, including oil and gas transmission pipes, water conveyance pipes, and pile pipes. These products have been successfully used in numerous major oil and gas pipeline projects, large-scale water conveyance projects, and large-scale seawater discharge pipeline projects both domestically and abroad, with some of them being exported in bulk to overseas markets such as Southeast Asia. Since its establishment, the company’s operational performance has continued to improve; it has produced over 400,000 tons of steel pipes in total, while also contributing 26.014 million yuan in taxes. In addition, the company has provided high-quality products for major water diversion and drainage projects such as the Lianjiang County urban-rural water supply integration project, the Tangban water diversion project, and the Kemen wastewater discharge project, thereby ensuring the successful completion of these projects. In the future, we will work closely with steel mills to explore manufacturing techniques for 30mm ultra-thick-walled spiral steel pipes, striving to achieve new breakthroughs in the spiral steel pipe industry.
