As one of the earliest companies to engage in the development of bamboo-based new materials, China Railway Construction possesses strong capabilities in resource integration, technological research and development, as well as market influence, and will play a key role in advancing the development of this industry. First, they are technology leaders. We have a strong R&D team capable of driving technological advancements in bamboo-based composites, particularly in the development of high-performance, multi-functional materials. We can also participate in or lead the formulation of industry standards for bamboo-based composites, thereby promoting the standardized development of this industry. The second is a market pioneer. China Railway Construction’s extensive experience in infrastructure development enables the widespread use of bamboo-based composite materials in projects such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, utility tunnels, and urban renewal initiatives; through the successful application of these materials in its own projects, it serves as a model for others to follow. Third are the industry chain integrators. By collaborating with bamboo cultivation bases, we can ensure a stable supply of raw materials and maintain quality control, thereby achieving integration of upstream resources ; By collaborating with design firms, construction companies, material suppliers, and others, efforts are made to promote the use of bamboo-based composite materials in more fields, thereby expanding their applications in downstream sectors. Fourth are international collaborators. Through international cooperation, advanced foreign technologies and management practices can be introduced ; By participating in international engineering projects, bamboo-based composite materials are promoted to the global market to enhance international competitiveness. Overall, through comprehensive efforts, China Railway Construction is confident and capable of driving the rapid development of the bamboo-based new materials industry and helping it secure a significant position in the global market. The bamboo-based composite pipes produced by China Railway Construction are manufactured through automated processes; as a new type of bio-based material pipe, they feature low weight, high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and a long service life. As a low-carbon and environmentally friendly product, with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons, it can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 6 million tons, and sequester or fix about 10 million tons of carbon. It plays a significant role in achieving the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and has been **included in the list of key products for replacing plastic with bamboo**
There are mainly three factors that restrict the development of this industry: First, the product portfolio of bamboo-based composite materials is relatively limited, with insufficient expansion of both vertical and horizontal industrial chains, and regional industrial clusters have not yet been truly established. Secondly, there is a lack of technological development; it is necessary to focus efforts on overcoming key technologies in order to address the issues of a small and fragmented industry scale, as well as low levels of continuity, automation, and intelligence. Third, the development of standards and certification systems for bamboo-based composites is relatively lagging behind; their application scenarios are limited, and market acceptance remains low. Solving these problems requires strong support from the government as well as efforts from businesses.
I have seen water conduits made of bamboo used in rural areas of the Jiangnan hilly region to bring water down from the mountains, as well as manhole covers made of tofu dregs reinforced with bamboo.
This thing is good. It would be better to develop a system that can deliver low-pressure steam at some point.
