The inlet ball valve is a core component of pumped storage units, playing a crucial role in reducing water leakage during unit shutdowns and ensuring the safety of the units. It is said that this ball valve has quite large specifications: its nominal diameter reaches 2200 millimeters, its weight is as high as 142 tons, the design pressure is 12.24 megapascals, and the stress test pressure even reaches 18.36 megapascals, making its design and manufacture quite challenging. The acceptance test results showed that all performance parameters of this inlet ball valve met the requirements specified in the contract; its machined dimensions and sealing performance were excellent, with zero leakage observed in both the maintenance seal and the service seal during the leak testing. This proves that the design calculations are accurate, the manufacturing process is reliable, and the structural strength is safe. The success of this acceptance test indicates that China’s design and manufacturing capabilities for ultra-high head, large-diameter inlet ball valves have reached international advanced levels, demonstrating China’s technical strength and its leading position in the field of large-scale hydropower projects. At present, the manufacturing and delivery of the mechanical and electrical equipment for the Zhejiang Tiantai Pumped Storage Power Station are at their peak, which poses a significant challenge to the project team. The Three Gorges Construction Machinery and Electrical Technology Center will strive to achieve the goals of \"high-quality units and elegant mechanical and electrical systems\", thereby creating favorable conditions for the first unit of the power plant to begin generating electricity by the end of 2025. The success of this acceptance is not only a technical triumph but also the result of the team’s efforts and hard work.
