A valve needs to be installed on the blast furnace gas pipeline, which has a diameter of 1800 mm. There is a main valve at least 30 meters before the installation point, and another valve about 60 meters further back. Now, cutting must be done on the pipeline, of course after the gas supply is turned off. I would like to ask what safety measures need to be taken before cutting, and how to confirm that there is no gas left in the pipes after purging.
It is necessary to first displace the gas with nitrogen produced by air separation. After this displacement, it is required to check whether the amount of gas in the pipeline has been reduced to zero or to a level that makes work possible before proceeding with the work
How can I check if there is no gas left? Because there are no openings in the vicinity through which gas concentration can be detected.
