There are two scenarios in this case: 1. During the initial construction, special attention should be paid to this issue. The traditional method involves mixing KPI clay into a liquid state and pouring it in; after curing, the material shrinks by 30-50%, and due to air being trapped inside, some materials fail to cure properly, leading to leaks once the vehicle is in use. It causes a lot of headaches for property owners. 2. After the leakage occurred, many external welded iron boxes were used along with KPI putty, which prevented leakage in the short term; however, the internal corrosion was not resolved.
The best approach is to remove the sleeve entirely; after inspection, if sandiness or damage is found, replace it with a new sleeve. Clean the existing sealant at the installation site thoroughly, and it’s advisable to dry it out by baking it. Then reinstall the sleeve and carry out multiple filling processes, making sure that the material has a high solid content. Finally, apply glue several times to ensure no further leaks occur.
Remake the sleeve and plug it with KPI putty and asbestos rope.
