Initially, cold air was used for cleaning the insulation hanging from the cathode of electric mist eliminators; the advantage of this method was that it required no electricity, but the downside was that air seeped in, which hindered the maintenance of negative pressure at the smelting furnace outlet. Currently, new electric demisters use tapered quartz tubes combined with electric heating; although it consumes electricity, it is beneficial for flue gas balance.
In the design of electric mist eliminators, there are those with quartz tubes as well as those with insulated porcelain columns, depending on the process requirements. The insulation box of the quartz tube serves as protection against electric heating, while those with insulating porcelain columns require forced airflow at positive pressure; both functions are to provide insulation and bear weight.
During electrical fog maintenance, go to the site more often and take a closer look as long as safety is ensured.
