Discussion on the reasons for high acetylene consumption and high calcium carbide consumption in vinyl chloride production

Everyone, recently our plant’s calcium carbide consumption has remained high, at around 1.43 tons per ton of product, exceeding previous records. We have inspected the system and found no leaks; currently, the consumption of chlorine vinyl gas is high while the production of acetylene is low. Has any unit encountered this issue before? Let’s discuss the reasons; I really can’t figure out what the cause is.
High specific consumption can be attributed to various factors; the main ones are the pulverization of calcium carbide and the generation of large amounts of waste, while other causes include the entrainment of calcium carbide along with slag during its discharge.
Check the air volume; don’t rely blindly on reports – the management aspect is very important
Conduct process evaluation by analyzing raw materials and production stages.
Is it high physical consumption or a high conversion factor? In the case of high physical consumption, production system issues need to be considered; whereas for a high conversion factor, gas emission levels are relevant factors to take into account. There is also the possibility that measurement errors in the acetylene gas in the middle could cause the problem you mentioned
