On May 8, the method for hydrogenation of used tires developed by Shanghai Junming Chemical Engineering Design Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as Junming Design) was granted an invention patent by the **Intellectual Property Office. According to Han Baoping, the chief technical expert at Junming Design, the treatment of materials such as used tires and plastic waste has always been an urgent issue in the fields of environmental protection and resource recycling. Traditional treatment methods not only make it difficult to achieve efficient resource utilization; while increasing the supply of raw materials such as petroleum and coal, they also easily lead to secondary environmental pollution. How to maximize the resource value of raw materials such as waste tires and plastic waste has become an urgent issue for the industry to address. Junming Design’s invention represents an innovation in chemical industry technology, offering a completely new solution to this challenging problem. “A Method for Hydrogenation of Used Tires” (Patent No.: ZL202511593467.6): A process method that combines a bubbling bed and a fixed bed for the hydrogenation of used tires, converting the hydrogenation reaction of these tires into liquid products and carbon black, thereby achieving the recycling of used tires. This approach allows for efficient reuse of such tires while also meeting environmental requirements. The combined boiling bed + fixed bed hydrogenation process for used tires developed in this invention opens up a brand new pathway for the resource utilization of used tires. After the steel wires are removed from the used tires, these tires are cut, ground into powder, and converted into a slurry. This slurry is then pumped into a hydrogen-rich bubbling-bed reactor, which is filled with microspherical catalysts or homogeneous catalysts added to the feed material. In this bubbling-bed reactor, the solid components of the used tires are transformed into carbon black, liquid oil, and light hydrocarbon gases. After the solids and liquids are effectively separated, the liquid product proceeds to a conventional fixed-bed hydrogenation reactor, where it is processed to produce high-quality liquid products. Han Baoping said that this technology can significantly increase the value of raw materials such as used tires and plastic waste, converting them into products with high added value, or using them as raw materials for existing refining facilities to continue producing basic organic chemical materials that can be reprocessed into tires or plastics. Compared with traditional processes such as pyrolysis and catalytic cracking, it can significantly improve the yield and quality of the useful products, thereby generating greater economic and social benefits for enterprises.
