Recently, Sherwin-Williams’ Marine and Protective Coatings division in the United States introduced a new type of water-based floor coating that boasts unique resistance to contamination caused by hot tires. This AquArmorTM WBU water-based polyurethane floor coating is a new generation of high-performance aliphatic polyurethane water-based coating that can be used on both floor and wall surfaces. It offers performance and aesthetic qualities comparable to those of solvent-based products, while also having the advantage of lower volatile organic compound (VOC) levels compared to solvent-based formulations. AquArmorTM WBU water-based polyurethane floor coating maintains the appearance of the floor surface over time. The application properties of the coating on wet surfaces help to minimize tire marks, and it also boasts excellent chemical resistance, which contributes to enhancing the aesthetics of floors in automobile dealerships, aircraft hangars, food and beverage facilities and warehouses, as well as in pharmaceutical processing equipment and light manufacturing industries. “Most floor systems currently used in areas such as automobile dealerships, aircraft hangars, and warehouses are still based on solvent-based formulations, as no water-based alternatives have met the performance standards required by these systems. The introduction of AquArmorTM WBU water-based polyurethane floor coating is set to change this situation,” said Casey Ball, Market Director for Resin Floors at Xuanwei Company. “This new coating offers the same or even better chemical resistance, resistance to heat-induced tire contamination and heat-induced tire peeling as solvent-based systems, while simultaneously reducing volatile organic compound emissions.” AquadmorTM WBU water-based polyurethane floor coating has a short drying time: it can be walked on after 18 hours, light vehicles can drive on it after 24 hours, and heavy loads can be handled on it fully after 48 hours.
