On October 29, the ethylene column of Unit 3, with a capacity of 1 million tons per year, as part of Maoming Petrochemical’s upgrade project, was accurately hoisted into place. Project Overview: The Ethylene Upgrade Project of Sinopec Maoming Branch aims to increase the capacity of the existing ethylene production facility from 1 million tons per year to 1.64 million tons per year. The specific measures involve constructing a new No. 3 ethylene plant with a capacity of 1 million tons per year, which will replace the existing No. 1 ethylene plant with a capacity of 360,000 tons per year. The project will utilize the existing ethylene plant site of the Maoming branch, and two new plots will be acquired to the west and south of it, bringing the total area to 201.91 hectares; thus, the overall area covered by the project is 226.5 hectares (of which 24.59 hectares are within the existing plant site).
On November 3, the company’s upgrade project reached another key milestone: the \"largest\" equipment, Tower 2 for propylene, was successfully lifted into place thanks to the precise operation of a 4,000-ton crawler crane. Standing 110 meters tall with a diameter of 7.8 meters and weighing 1,818 tons, it is not only the tallest among all the towers in the project but also the heaviest in the chemical processing area. The completion of this key milestone marks the successful finish of the project’s core task: operating the 4,000-ton crawler crane in the chemical processing area. This lifting operation was fraught with difficulties: the old factory area is cramped, and the precision required for lifting is extremely high ； During that period, the project was also hit by typhoons twice, which severely reduced the available time for construction; as a result, the timeline was tight, the tasks were heavy, and the risks were high.
