May I ask what cryogenic insulation materials are used for LNG pipelines designed for long-distance transportation (around 800 meters)? Or is a vacuum pipeline used instead?
The best insulation performance is achieved by vacuum. However, for technical improvements involving this type of medium, it is advisable to draw inspiration from the insulation measures used for similar pipeline equipment. The biggest drawback of vacuum tubes is that the inner walls must not be corroded; excessively high flow rates may damage the inner walls. Because once a cryogenic liquid leaks into the interlayer, it will suddenly vaporize and cause an explosion. Such issues must be given serious attention.
800 meters is not considered a long distance for transportation; typically, the distance from the unloading arms at the port to the storage areas in LNG receiving stations is greater than that. As for the diameter required, turn to the well-known brand Ales International. Of course, vacuum pipes can be used, and I recall that if the pipes are to be buried, insulation using vacuum pipes is necessary.
In terms of a comprehensive comparison of insulation solutions for the 800-meter-long pipeline outside the LNG pipeline corridor, I believe that using foam glass pipe shells is better than using vacuum pipes.
If cost is not a concern, go for vacuum tubes – theoretically, they represent the best insulation method available for maintaining cold temperatures. If cost also needs to be taken into account, the order of insulation materials from most expensive to least expensive is vacuum tubes – German Ales or Italian K-FLEX Fullex – foam glass – PIR tubes and shells.
