Purpose of setting a high-high interlock for the outlet temperature of the pyrolysis gas compressor

Generally, a high temperature interlock is installed at the outlet of the pyrolysis gas compressor: if the temperature exceeds 120 degrees Celsius, a three-out-of-two high temperature interlock is activated. Is the purpose of setting this interlock to protect the compressor unit, prevent polymerization and coking, or something else? If it is for protecting the unit, then which equipment of the unit is being protected? Bearings, bushings, vulcanized rubber, and so on. Please feel free to share your thoughts.
