On August 30, the ethane-to-ethylene cracking unit at Dushanzi Petrochemical’s Tarim plant began feeding materials at 10:58, and qualified ethylene product was successfully produced at 21:57, marking a successful first commissioning of the Tarim ethane-to-ethylene project. This also marks the successful commissioning of the largest refining and chemical project ever invested in by China National Petroleum Corporation in southern Xinjiang since the Tarim Oil Campaign in 1989; the annual ethylene production capacity of Dushanbe Petrochemical Company has reached a new level of 2 million tons. The ethane-to-ethylene project took only 44 days from contract signing to the start of production; from the start of production to the generation of qualified products, it took just 11 hours. Throughout the entire operation period, emissions from the flares were virtually zero, achieving a green, efficient, and high-quality start-up with \"zero accidents, zero injuries, zero pollution, and zero leaks.\" This project set new records in terms of construction time, safety performance, and operational efficiency for similar facilities in China. The Dushanzi Petrochemical Tarim Ethane to Ethylene Project is a key project in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and for China National Petroleum Corporation; it has also been designated by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as a model project for the production of ethylene through ethane cracking. The total investment in this project is 8.04 billion yuan, covering an area of 2,216 mu. Construction on this project began on June 19, 2019. Through the relentless efforts of nearly 10,000 workers, and despite challenges such as recurring outbreaks of the pandemic and extreme weather conditions, the project was fully completed by CCCC on July 17 this year, within an overall project timeline of 24 months and an actual construction period of 19 months. The ethylene plant uses pure ethane as raw material and employs the ethane steam cracking technology developed independently by China National Petroleum Corporation. Compared with traditional naphtha-based ethylene production, ethane-based ethylene production offers advantages such as a higher yield of ethylene, lower energy consumption, a shorter process flow, and reduced costs. The yield of ethylene can be increased from around 30% to 80%, while costs can be reduced by more than 30%. Key economic and technical indicators such as ethylene yield and overall energy consumption can reach world-class levels, making this approach a model for promoting the high-value utilization of domestic natural gas resources and reducing reliance on foreign ethylene production technologies. The project commenced on June 19, 2019, with a planned construction period of 25 months, but the actual working period was only 19 months. Nearly 10,000 participants made relentless efforts to overcome the challenges posed by recurring outbreaks of the pandemic and extreme weather conditions, and on July 17, 2021, CCCC was fully completed
