According to Sinochem News, recently the Dajiji gas field, China’s largest coalbed methane field, achieved an annual production capacity of over 4 billion cubic meters. Its output accounts for more than three-quarters of the country’s total coalbed methane production, making it an important source that contributes to the growth of natural gas production in China. The Dajiji gas field is China’s first coalbed methane demonstration project. Since the beginning of this year, CNPC Coalbed Methane Company has drilled 16 new wells, adding a production capacity of 250 million cubic meters, which has helped raise the daily gas output of this field to over 11 million cubic meters – a 32% increase on a year-on-year basis. Compared to conventional natural gas, coalbed methane is found at greater depths, in more complex geological conditions, and its extraction requires advanced technical skills; as a result, it has long been regarded as a \"deep-sea forbidden zone \" for oil and gas exploration and development. In recent years, CNPC Coalbed Methane Company has continued to advance theoretical innovations in the exploration and development of coalbed methane, establishing a theoretical framework for its accumulation. This framework enables precise understanding of the dual-phase existence pattern of gas in deep coalbed formations – namely adsorbed and free states. The company has made every effort to accelerate and improve the efficiency of coalbed methane development, successfully developing a range of key core technologies such as those based on an integrated geological-engineering approach and for constructing horizontal sections exceeding 3,000 meters in length. These technologies provide strong support for the large-scale and efficient development of coalbed methane. Currently, the company is making steady progress on the Phase II production capacity expansion project at the Daji Gas Field. Upon completion, the project will add an annual production capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters.
