Factors affecting the measurement accuracy of silicate analyzers 1. Effect of acidity: Both the reaction between silicates and ammonium molybdate to form silicomolybdenum yellow, and the reduction of silicomolybdenum yellow to silicomolybdenum blue, take place under acidic conditions. And both of these reactions are reversible. If an insufficient amount of acid is added, the reaction will not proceed completely; if too much acid is used, interfering substances such as phosphomolybdic acid will not be able to form complexes with tartaric acid or oxalic acid, resulting in incomplete removal of these interferents and leading to higher measurement values. Therefore, it is necessary to control the amount of acid added, with a pH value of 1.1–1.3 being ideal. 2. Influence of color development time: Chemical reaction speeds vary; therefore, it is necessary to strictly follow the methods and timing specified in national standard 2 for preparing chemical reagents, in order to ensure that the reaction proceeds completely. 3. Effect of reaction temperature: The reaction temperature is one of the reaction conditions; chemical reactions all take place under certain conditions. If the reaction temperature is too low, the reaction will not proceed completely, resulting in lower measurement values. For the above chemical reactions, it is better to maintain a reaction temperature of 25±5°C, as this ensures better reproducibility of the reaction results. If the temperature is too low, methods such as water bath heating should be used to maintain the reaction conditions. 4. Influence of water quality on solution preparation. Strictly speaking, water free of silicon should be used for preparing standard solutions; generally, laboratories use purified water or deionized water as a substitute for silicon-free water. However, due to differences in the methods of water purification and the equipment used, the silicon content in the water varies. Therefore, after completing the instrument testing, it is necessary to measure the silicon content in the water used to prepare the solution; by removing the silicon content present in that water, accurate measurements can be ensured.
