BASF to build new electronics chemicals plant

On October 30, BASF announced that it would build an advanced production facility for electronic-grade ammonium hydroxide in Ludwigshafen, Germany, with operations set to begin in 2027. With the construction or expansion of multiple new chip manufacturing facilities across Europe, the demand for high-quality, high-purity semiconductor-grade chemicals such as ammonium hydroxide is increasing day by day. This demand is being driven forward at an accelerated pace by a close partner of BASF, which is currently building new chip production facilities in Europe. BASF’s investment in the semiconductor chemicals value chain is primarily based on customer and supplier commitments of long-term trust with its strategic partners. The electron-grade ammonium hydroxide produced by the new facility will be used to support wafer cleaning, etching, and other precision processes in semiconductor manufacturing. It is widely applied in advanced chip manufacturing technologies, contributing to the development of next-generation semiconductors, and holds great significance for key European industries such as automotive and artificial intelligence.
