Commissioning of the ethylene glycol plant renovation project at Shanghai Petrochemical

The renovation project of Shanghai Petrochemical’s ethylene glycol plant came online 2025-06-08 08:57·Sinopec. Recently, the renovation project aimed at enabling the No. 2 ethylene glycol plant at Shanghai Petrochemical to operate on a low-load, intermittent basis was officially put into use, thereby further improving the plant’s operational efficiency and its ability to adjust the product mix. Launched in September 2024, this project involves the addition of a new high-efficiency heat exchanger, optimization of the material pipeline layout, and adaptive modifications to the pipeline system. Through these systematic adjustments, the facility can flexibly adjust the ratio of ethylene oxide to ethylene glycol production in line with market conditions, thereby ensuring efficient use of resources. After the modification, the stability of the unit’s operation under low-load conditions was significantly improved; it was able to respond quickly to market changes, reduce ethylene glycol production as appropriate, and thereby effectively lower the overall operating costs.
