Help needed: The gear pump has two impellers; the one at the bottom can be removed easily, but the one on top will not budge no matter what – I’ve tried hitting it, using acetylene to heat it, and soaking it in diesel loosener. The leadership doesn’t allow destructive handling; it’s urgent, I’m seeking help from experts.

When I started working here, there were no blueprints; it was the old storage area from 2003, and many things were incomplete. Before the New Year, we called the manufacturer’s staff and had them bring the spare parts; even the manufacturer’s technicians were at a loss and determined that the impeller had stuck to the shaft. The proposed solutions are either to directly cut off the impeller or to lift out the pump casing and use a press or a heavy jack to apply force, but the effectiveness of these methods is not guaranteed. Later, the management rejected the idea outright: first, destructive cutting was not allowed; second, they didn’t want to dismantle the pump room to lift the pump out – all of those proposals were turned down.
Make a fixture, place the hydraulic jack between the shaft and the fixture, tighten it in place, and then burn it with acetylene – speed is important. Do not wait for the heat to reach the shaft; once it expands, it will no longer be effective. Once it reaches a certain temperature, hit the shaft with a hammer.

OP, first of all, using a puller won’t work; there are three issues as seen in the image: 1. Insufficient torque; 2. Unbalanced tension ; 3. The tie rod is prone to thread slippage. A four-legged ram with a hydraulic jack can be made. Use a hook to secure the impeller, and when heating the impeller, control the heating surface so that the shaft does not expand as a result of heating. That’s all that’s needed.
